The Northcliff Arts Centre, a beloved cultural hub nestled near the base of Northcliff Ridge, has unveiled an exciting new initiative for the autumn season: a series of free community art workshops. Designed to be accessible to all skill levels and ages, the program aims to ignite artistic passion and strengthen community bonds within the well-established Johannesburg suburb.
Starting the first week of April, the workshops will cover a diverse range of mediums, including introductory watercolour painting, clay sculpting for beginners, and a collaborative mural project focusing on local Northcliff landscapes. Sessions will be held bi-weekly on Saturday mornings at the centre's studio on Acacia Road. This initiative comes as part of the centre's ongoing commitment to enriching the cultural tapestry of Northcliff, providing a platform for creative expression beyond its regular paid classes.
Ms. Lena Mkhize, the director of the Northcliff Arts Centre, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming program. "Northcliff has a vibrant community spirit, and we believe art is a powerful way to connect people," Mkhize stated. "These free workshops are our way of inviting everyone, from young families on Beyers Naudé Drive to long-time residents in older homes, to discover or rekindle their creative spark. We’re particularly excited about the collaborative mural, which will become a lasting piece of community art reflecting our beautiful suburb."
Registration for the workshops is now open, with spaces allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to sign up early through the Northcliff Arts Centre website or by visiting their premises. The centre hopes this program will not only unearth local talent but also provide a welcoming space for residents to socialise, learn new skills, and contribute to Northcliff's rich cultural life.
